Organisers of the Nigeria Cup 2013 have said that the N3m prize for the annual tournament will be contested for by 25 golfers in the Professional Golf Association (PGA) on the order of merit.
The 10-day event, scheduled to commence tomorrow and staged to commemorate the Independence of Nigeria, will have the Senate President, David Mark, and Lagos State Governor, Babatunde Raji Fashola, performing the official tee-off on October 5.
Children’s Clinic/Competition, Caddies competition, Independence Day Kitty and Cultural Night, as well as Ladies’ Competition and Guests/ Veterans’ Competition, will precede the Pros event which will round off the tournament.
Chairman of the competition’s Organising Committee, Mr. Ted Iwere, who made this disclosure in Lagos yesterday, said the pros would be drawn from golf clubs across Nigeria.
“It is in our tradition to give the tournament the “Nigerian look” while ensuring keen competition among the golfers,” Iwere explained.
“The pros will be played on October 5 and 6 over 36 holes and this is our way of motivating the players in the category in the country,” he added.
Among the sponsors for the Nigeria Cup 2013 include C& I Motors, UBA, GT Bank, Nigerian Breweries, Accenture and Chevron Nigeria Limited.
