The Nigerian Golf Federation (NGF) has elected Special Adviser to the President of the Senate on Sports and Youth Development, Dr. Peter Deshi as its president for the next four years.
Deshi an avid golfer is the immediate past captain of the IBB International Golf and Country Club, Abuja. He will unarguably bring his wealth of experience to bear on his new assignment.
The new NGF President in his post election speech, expressed appreciation to the Federation for the confidence reposed in him and promised to take the game to a level where it becomes a house hold name in Nigeria.
According to Dr. Deshi “my mission is to demystify the game of Golf in Nigeria. This is to correct the erroneous impression that it is a game for the rich or that it is an elitist game.
“Contrary to this view, golf is a game for all ages and seasons. We are going to ensure that the game is introduced to both secondary and tertiary institutions during my tenure.
“All I need is the cooperation of all. The election is over and like true sports men and women, no victor, no vanquished. We are united by this game”.
With the proposal that golf would feature in the forthcoming Olympic Games in Brazil in 2014, Deshi assured that the nation would make appreciable impact through golf during the Olympics.
Others elected along with Deshi were Kunle Dada, who is the first vice president, Ema Ekong, Peter Nelson, Ishola Isaac, Lanre Onilu, Emenike John, Sam Iredia and Jubril Mohammed.
