For two days, young golfers from South-East region of the country will be gathered at the Abakiliki Golf Club in Ebonyi for a regional kiddie’s championship organized by the Nigeria Golf Federation.
The event is scheduled for May 22 and 23, 2015 and it will features players in three different categories which are age brackets; 8-12, 13-15, 16-19.
John Emenike, the regional representative of the federation said the event was important, going by the huge interest a lot of youth from the region has shown in the game of late.
“In the Federation we have noticed some growing interest in the game, adoption by schools as an extra-curricular activity and the rise to prominence of present national age-grade representatives has been reason for this. So we felt it was time to create platforms for these kids to show their skills” he said.
Emenike said he believes the regionhas more to offer the nation in terms of talent, going by the pedigree in sports generally, “I am very optimistic of the kind of talents that would be discovered at the event”
The event would host a clinic on the first day, before the players would be subjected to an 18-holes challenge on the following day.
