Montgomerie Defends Senior PGA Title

Colin Montgomerie successfully defended his Senior PGA Tour Championship at French Lick Resort on Sunday.

The Scot carded a three under 69 in the final round on the Pete Dye course for a four shot win over Mexico’s Estaban Toledo.

The 31-time European Tour winner started the day with a three stroke cushion, but indicated that it was more of a burden than a blessing.

“It was a difficult position to be in at the start of the day, being three ahead,” said the 51-year-old on pgatour.com.

“Nowhere to go but down with every hole out there a potential double bogey. I could never relax. I could never relax at all.

“Very, very tiring mentally. Every shot had to be executed or you could be in trouble. That’s a test and a half.”

The win is Montgomerie’s third Senior Major title after winning the Senior PGA and US Open in 2014, which brought lucrative sports betting outcomes.
