Okpe Set the Tone for N10 million Memorial Challenge

Minna Cantonment Golf Course’s Stephen Okpe is dictating the pace at the 2015 Dr. Mrs Odushola Ojerinde Memorial Golf Championship with a level par (72) score that he returned on Wednesday June 10, 2015.

The event, one of the flagship events of the Professional Golfers’ Association of Nigeria has consistently posted one of the biggest purse and hence being highly coveted by the players.

However, a leap forward by Okpe ahead of all the 80 players jostling for the title, has given some of the bi names presently assembled ta the Otukpo Golf and Country Club in Benue State something to fight for.

Director of the PGA, Festus Makelemi says Okpe’s surge gives him a lot of advantage that he hopes he can sustain him through the weekend.

“I am very delighted at the new names that have shown great talent this year. Okpe is another one after what the likes of Olapade Sunday, Marcus Elisha, and Kamalu Bako has done so far. It is impressive and that shows the level of progress we have made” he said.

But lurking behind Okpe, is Oche Odoh with one stroke deficit, while number one player, Ghanaian Emos Korblah too is just three strokes adrift.

“The games is four rounds, I hope he doesn’t get swallowed up by this one round lead” Makelemi Added.

The Memorial Championship ends on Saturday June13 with amateur round and the fourth day play for the professionals.
