Nigeria’s Sunday Olapade made a late attempt for the 2016 Ghana Open title in Achimota last weekend with his closing score of 69, two under par to earn a runner up position at the four day meet.
Recounting his appearance to pganigeria.com from Accra, he said, he would have loved to make the Ghana Open title his, but his game plan for the tournament did not come through.
“How I had wished everything worked for me the way it did on the last day, we would be saying something different by now. Again, I am still grateful for the joint second place because the field you have here is with some of the best players in this part of Africa. So it is decent finish for me” he said
Olapade mounted the closing day tee with 215, two over par and three shots adrift of Lucky Ayisah, who eventually won the event.
“Ayisah kept his nerves, despite having me and Korblah give him the kind of chase he witnessed” he added.
For his effort Ayisah pocketed $5, 000 US dollars of the $20, 000 available for win at the event leaving Olapade and Korblah $2, 000 each for their effort.
Three other Nigerian players featured at the event; former Nigeria’s best ranked player, Gift Willy placed 10th at the event, Adegoke Ogunsanya was 11th while Morgan Atako missed cut.
