The scores at the close of the second round of the 21st Air Assault Open in Port Harcourt reveal nothing but an interesting weekend as the chase for the N5million purse enter crucial moments.
Green Elephant Golf Course pro, Paul Patrick threw the biggest threat in the way of first day leader, Austin Akpodiette who stabilized today at the top of the leaderboard. Patrick shot four under, the best score so far for the week, and that has placed him firmly in contention for the honour. He is just one stroke off Akpodiette (who is now minus three overall).
“I think the game is still open and I would be glad to win it; just like anybody here. But first of all, we must stay calm and let the 72 holes be concluded” he said.
Both Akpodiette and Patrick are gunning for their first win since joining the professional rank, the game might come down to the player with the deepest hunger for it but that is not shoving aside the threats regulars who could play spoilsport at the weekend.
The rising profile of Francis Onuh and Emeka Obi along with Sunday Olapadeat the event, is enough to unsettle any leading group.
Meanwhile LateefLasisi is sitting comfortably at the top of the Seniour tour table with five strokes lead over Victor Enaigbe, while AC Sandy and Isa Balia are lurking behind.
Amateur players will join the chase for honour on Saturday morning for a 36 holes rush.
