Odegha Ties ‘Tafa for Lead in Freezing Jos

Former Nigeria’s top pro, Sunday Odegha has halved the chance of Ilorin based Abdulahi Mustapha (Tafa) for an outright win as players heads for the last round of the Plateau State Governor’s Cup in the cold weather of Jos.

Tafa’s had dictated the pace all through the event but blew up his three under cumulative score with a 75, (three over) in the third round, to set the tone for a much experience Odegha sharing lead with him.

The Director of the Professional Golfers’ Association, Samson Lawal, who doubles as the host professional said he is impressed at the performance of young players at recent event hosted by the association.

“The last two events have been very good for the young players and Mustapha’s performance here too has been impressive so far. I think this is a slight description of what the future of professional golf is. The young are getting stronger and the old need to brace up”

Izang Ayuba, the 2013 Qualifying School best graduating student won the 21st Air Assault Open a fortnight ago while Magnus Onumajuru won his first Tour event with the Abia State Governor’s Cup in Aba last week.  A win by Mustapha will also affirm the emergence of new “kids” on the Tour.

Meanwhile Onuh Francis is five strokes away from contention and he would be waiting in the wings when the two leading contenders meltdown.

Izang Ayuba, Francis Isuku and Agwon E are all in the picture for a dramatic final round for the professionals.

Amateur players from all over the country, especially from IBB Golf and Country Club are in town for a  36-hole fixture that will be rounded of on Sunday December 18.
