Big Names Rise as Tour Opener Gather Momentum

Apart from Vincent Torgah who retained his top spot at the Professional Golfers’ Association of Nigeria Tour opening event in Otukpo Benue State, other players in the top six have had to dig out their best game on day-two be in contention.

The biggest mover on the rung is Port Harcourt based Gift Willy who fired the best round of the tournament so far, at 68, four under par to move 33 places from 36th to joint third place at the Pa AIkwuta Mark Memorial Golf Tournament.

Olapade Sunday returned three-under par (69) and leapt seventeen spaced to second place says the event promises to be tougher in the last two rounds left to be played.

“ I think the golf course being under repair especially on the back nine, gave us some challenges, but we are getting acquainted with it and that should play out as the tournament gets to its climax.” he said

Last year’s Order of Merit leader, Sunday Odegha also gained momentum along with Ghana’s Emos Korblah, they all occupy joint third spot with Willy, Marcus Elisha and Francis Epe.

The Pa AIkwuta Mark Memorial Golf Tournament was making a return to the Tour calendar after it was skipped in 2016 season, meanwhile, Oche Odoh, who last won the event is not taking part in the event as he is presently focused on keeping his place on the Sunshine Tour in South Africa.

The event would be concluded on Saturday, February 4th with a purse of N5million naira at stake for the top forty players that scaled the midway cut.
