Nigeria’s Kabir Habu Mohammed has won the inaugural edition of Ecobank Invitational that was concluded at the Rivera Resort Golf Course in Monrovia, Liberia last weekend.
Mohammed, a professional at the Kano Golf Club shot 69, 65, 65 to return fourteen under par for the three rounds that the event featured.
“It was my first time in Liberia and my first win as a pro. I am glad it came after so many runner-ups on the Nigerian Tour”, he told www.pganigeria.com.
The event teed off with two Nigerians in top contention for the top prize at the event. Olapade Sunday of MicCom Golf and Country Club, Ada was the other player.
“I think the course played well to my strength and my game was sharp for the week. In all I think a number of things worked well in my favour and ultimately my hard work too paid off,” Mohammed added.
He pocketed $3,000 USD for his 56 holes performance on the par 71 course and he believes the win would set him up for the next major events back home.
Early in April Professional Golfers’ Association of Nigeria has announced that N5m has been staked for the forthcoming David Mark Invitational Golf Tournament billed to tee off in Benue state.
