Sunday Odegha, one of Nigeria’s professional stars believes his dream of participating in the forthcoming Lombard Insurance Open in South Africa would be realized.
The Open, which is termed mouthwatering in the Sunshine Tour, has a total purse of R1 million (South African Rand) and the winners prize of R100, 000 (South African Rand).
The Nigeria number one in order of merit as at March was expected to leave Nigeria between April 22 and 23 ahead of the tournament which tees off from May 16-19.
“Leaving ahead of the tournament is for me to train properly and acclimatize,” he said.
Odegha in this regard is looking up to a local Professional Golfers’ Association of Nigeria (PGAN) tour expected to hold before the close of April to raise some funds for the trip.
“All things being equal, I hope to leave as planned latest May 10. The initial April 22-23date is no more feasible. I want to participate in one PGAN tour before leaving. It will help me financially for the trip,” Odegha told Independent.
Odegha in an earlier interview harped on the need for sponsorship from individuals or corporate organisations to enhance his game.
The Minna Golf Club professional player who won the December 2016 PGAN Tour (Governor’s Cup) in Jos, Plateau State concluded that the financial challenges would not deter him from working hard.
“I’m not discouraged with the financial problems anyway and I will not complain, because I believe God will always make things work with prayers and hard work
