PGA Honoured Sen. Mark

Jide Bolaji, the Secretary General of the Professional Golfers’ Association of Nigeria (PGAN), has said that the contributions of Senator David Mark to the development of golf in Nigeria can only be appreciated with a “life-time” honour.

Bolaji said this during the week in Lagos while dwelling on the recent award of “Life Vice President” to the former Nigeria Senate President @69 in his Otukpo home, Benue State.

The secretary believed that, “Sen. Mark is one man in Nigeria among few others that is genuinely dedicated to the development golf in Nigeria without mincing words.” He emphasized that, “It is only in Otukpo where we have golf facilities that are within the reach of every prospective golfer, no discrimination; just come and play golf if you are interested and prepared.

“Let’s not dwell much on his academy which is internationally known; the performance of the academy players too cannot be over-emphsised because they have proved their worth in lots of junior tournaments home and abroad.

“Also, lots of professionals and amateur players have made fortunes from tournaments under the sponsorship of David Mark and the tournaments are annual; they are staged as at when due without excuses,” he said.

The man behind all these developments according to PGAN `scribes “deserves so much from us, but this is our widow’s mite to encourage him to continue.”

Senator Mark is Life Vice President to Gen, IBM Haruna of IBB Club, Abuja who is the “Life President.”

It would be recalled that top tournaments as David Mark Memorial, Engineer Oyerinde Memorial, NGF among others are some  that frequently feature at the Otukpo Golf Club.
