The Professional Golfers’ Association of Nigeria (PGAN) has suspended six of its members for anti-association activities, which it feels would be inimical to the development of the game in the country.
The suspended members are Kingsley Okparaku, Willy Gift, Ideriah Solomon, Johnbull Dangofa, Atako Morgan and Vincent Torgah from Ghana.
The members were said to have participated in the just concluded West Africa Golf Tour tagged “2nd Port Harcourt Classic” even as PGAN has barred its members from the tour owing to contractual dispute between them.
Samson Lawal, PGAN Director commenting on the development said that the association has no other option than to make the erring members face the consequences of their actions.
According to him, “The six players are aware of the consequences of their actions; it is outright suspension. The disciplinary committee will also meet for further actions on the players.”
The Director commenting further on the tournament champion, Kingsley Okparaku, he said, “I’m most disappointed in Kingsley, because he is a member of the PGAN Committee.
“Some time ago, he was to be impeached, but I waded into the matter and pleaded on his behalf. It is sad that he is the one leading others to betray the association,” he said.
Lawal said that the efforts of the association have been geared towards protecting the interest of the members’ future, but he felt that some of them have not been appreciative of it.
“While we are working hard to protect the future of the members, some of them out of greed will not understand,” he concluded.
