The Inaugural Ibadan Mesiogo Golf Championships themed Beyond Golf in Ibadan and the IMEGA Awards 2017 which will be held from the 4th – 8th October 2017 at the Ibadan Golf Club and the Ibadan International Conference Centre has been unveiled to the media last week.
Organisers of the Ibadan Mesiogo OPEN which will feature top professional golfers from Nigeria, Africa and other part of the world. They will be playing for a prize fund of ten million Naira (N10,000,000) and the top ranked golfers will qualify for the 5th edition of the blue ribbon prestigious Golf Tournament – 3e Actuaries OPEN – Road to Mongomo which will take place in Mongomo, Equatorial Guinea from 12 – 16 December 2017. It usually features professional golfers from over 30 nations from all corners of the World.
IMEGA Awards 2017 is the inaugural annual Ibadan Mesiogo Awards ceremony. It will make awards in several categories within the Game and outside the game of Golf. It will celebrate and appreciate eminent Nigerians and those who have contributed to the development of the game of Golf. The awards will include IMEGA Lifetime Achievement Award, Ibadan Mesiogo Heritage Award, Legacy Award for sports, Best Golf course in Nigeria, Best Nigerian under 18 Young Golfer (male and female) amongst others. The IMEGA Awards 2017 will also give awards to leading sportsmen across about thirty (30) sports under the administration of the OYO State Sports Council.
The opening ceremony will hold on the 4th of October at the Ibadan Golf Club while the professional Golf championships will officially kick off on 5th of October at the Ibadan Golf Club. The grand finale will be held at the University of Ibadan International Conference Centre on 7th of October with the IMEGA Awards ceremony and Gala night.
The Ibadan Mesiogo OPEN will also feature an Amateur Golf tournament on the 8th of October and it is open to all amateur golf players in Nigeria who wish to participate in the tournament. The maximum handicap for participants is twenty (20) for Men and twenty-eight (28) for ladies.
