PLATEAU STATE GOVERNOR’S CUP: Ex-Lamingo Lady Captain Harps On Ladies Privileges, Bemoans Players Disqualification

Tina Micah, a PGA of Nigeria lady player and former Lady Captain of Lamingo Golf Club Jos has emphasised the need for the privileges of lady professionals to be accorded them by the association to give them a sense of belonging.

Micah who became a professional in 2021 made the statement while reacting to the development that led to the disqualification of three women professional players on Wednesday December 7.

According to Micah who expressed her disenchantment over the disqualification, “Our Ladies need to be accorded their privileges since we’re all playing for a prize – I mean Ladies should be allowed to tee off from Ladies Tee Box in championships and not men’s Tee Box. Ladies have to play in front of men and not the other way round; it’s not fair.”

Recall that the disqualification of Favour Efenedo; Abdul Blessing and Wesley Sharon was consequent upon teeing off from a wrong Tee Box even as there was no marker to indicate the ladies and men’s Tee Box.

Micah whose tenure as Lady Captain at Lamingo lasted five years – 20012-2017 – however, revealed that the disqualification of the trio of Efenedo, Abdul and Sharon affected her game negatively on Wednesday.

“I felt sad when the news broke that three lady players (mentioned above) have been disqualified; they have travelled from far and near, prepared very well to participate in this tournament and at the end they were disqualified! It’s not a good story at all. The news affected my game badly because I was not happy, she said.

She invariably noted, “Well, the rules of golf has to be obeyed, just as ignorance is not an excuse in golf; the lesson is that they should be guided against future occurrence; otherwise, I personally advised them to go back and tee off from the right spot – I was behind them; there was no marker to indicate the Ladies’Tee Box, but they ignored my advice, because an official told them to go ahead,” she revealed.
